RE: Need Generator Help!

My dealer had me get a receiver hitch carrier. Then he mounted a Kipor 6000, and ran a permanent cord. Also installed the switches so would not have to unhook from shore power if needing to run Generator, and etc.I don't know what all he put on, but it runs like a factory installed unit, but mounted to the receiver. This works great, but would prefer one from the factory, but did not have the option at the time. One good thing, if we don't need it we just take it off and put in garage. The Kipor is fine for us. If you are going to run one a lot you might want another unit. I've ran this one all night several time so I could run A/C, and only used about 2 1/2 gallons of gas. This was a private place, so didn't disturb neighbor.

RE: Retirement trip is over

This was a big misfortune. I hope you can get everything going again. These things will happen, but at least you are OK.
God bless you and hope you can still have a great trip.

RE: Do you lubericate your 5th wheel hitch

I used the teflon disc until I got the Super Glide. I've always used small amounts of grease on moving parts, including the king pin. On the super glide I use the slip plate on the way tubes, and usually light amounts of greast on all the other parts. They also say to use a light lube on the 5th plate. There is still a little movement there.

RE: What 5th wheel hitch do you have and how do you like it?

We know have Pullright Super Glide.I have used a Husky manual slike, Husky with electric motor to slide the hitch back. (very slow) Then I used a 20K Reese non slide. I got by with it until last year and took out rear window. Thus the SG. It is definitely my favorite hitch. The hitch coupled to a Mor Ride extended pin is one smooth ride.

RE: RV Camper Shot

Having protection in the home and the RV makes good sense. However; dont' keep them in a place where the burglar can get a hold of them. I always check doors at home and RV. It's part of being safe just like not overloading a tow vehicle.

RE: All that space in the basement and no AC Outlet - Fixed

I have one in the basement, but its behind a door that can't be opened when we are loaded with things. Guess I could run a wire through from the other plug unit and install on the wall. That is a great idea. Thanks for the idea.

RE: First 5th Wheel !

You are where I was about 4 1/2 years ago. I was lost, but I knew I wanted to change some things in my life. I had to find some relaxation. I had a friend that helped me buy my first unit, and told us how to use everything. The first thing I discovered I didn't have enough truck. I imagine you will discover that, but maybe you can make it for a little while. Yes I recommend a slider. They make sliders that have to be moved manually, and they make auto sliders. I've used both. The manuals will work. You just have to get out and mose the lever. The pullright super glide jsut does it for you. We installed one after losing our rear window. The autos are expensive. When I traded trucks I still didn't buy one that was large enough for the trailer I had purchased. Today I've finally got everything balnced even though I'm pushing the truck. Plenty of horse power, just needs a little more weight capacity.
There are many more things to learn. Stay on the RV Net. You will get some great advice, and some that you just ignore.
Have a great time and be very careful witht he small truck.

RE: WATER HEATER PLUG IN OR OUT?

I've always left mine out. I've never had a problem. I usually run a lot of water through the tank to flush it, then I put the plastic plug back in. Guess it really doesn't hurt one way or the other.

RE: Pullrite SuperGlide Hitch Tall Pin Posts

That is high, but I suppose they are hardened pins. They take a heavy load. I'm glad my standard pins work.

RE: 5th Wheel Spirit Level

I had one on a 2001 Alfa that worked. When we traded we installed another and it did not work. I can't remember if I got another, but we gave up and went to a reguler carperter's level. We keep trying inside the RV, and then we find the spot that we know is the most level, and the level will give us the reading we need. Course we make sure the refergirator is level. Once we fined the spot then it can be used every trip. Also I make sure the refergirator door does not move when open showing me the unit is close to level.

RE: DW wants a new 5er

We have an 03 Ford with the 6.0. Has about 90,000 miles and we've only changed one sensor. I have a 2005 F350 with the same engine with about 57,000 miles and we've done nothing but service. One of the major keys to the 6.0 is service. We always use fuel additive to keep the injectors working, and then we keep the oil clean. We run synthetic, and change the filter every 3000 miles. The key to the 6.0 is good maintaince, and then go ahead and work them hard. We love ours.

I to like to leave mine full. We could get in a bad storm and that be the one place we could have heat. To I know I'm ready to go at the drop of a hat.

RE: Five years ago - where?

I have no idea, but I would like to be there. That would be a lot more fun then all the farming we have to do for the next several weeks.

RE: Thinking of putting tool box in my F450

For insurance we went with the unit that goes clear to the floor and is flush with the bed rails. My son in law has the tank with tool box on top. I needed more capacity so went with just the flush fuel tank. I really miss the tool space, but made the last trip without buy fuel.We have short beds, so flush mounts work for us.

RE: We can't believe we just did it!

Sometimes it is just not reasonable. For us we only get about 4 good weeks in the 5er. We didn't get that this year, mostly because of doctors, and just a lack of finances. However are full week at labor day to Stone Wall Co. made it worth everything. It was relaxing, and a great time with the wife.

RE: Maxxis (D) vs. Carlisle (E) vs. Marathon (C)

I've had Maxxis on several trailers, as well as other applications. They have all held up well. I did have a set of heavy mud tires on a 4 wheel drive truck 3/4 ton used on the farm. They did not last anytime, but I did get a warranty for lack of mileage. Maxxis is a good tire, and a good company,
